“In 1980 I set up an independent cassette label called R.E.P. (Revolutionary Extrication Project), primarily to release my own work. The studio I was using at the time, the Horyuji Sound House, had a four-channel mixer and cassette deck. After I had laid down the basic tracks here, I would take them back to the REP Studio (my home at the time) for overdubbing and mixing on two cassette decks with mixing capabilities. Finally, I would duplicate the cassettes for release. Between 1980 and 1983, I released around forty titles on the label (including some by other people). I have chosen ten of these titles to re-release in this set, “Learning from the past – REP reissue series vol.1″. These releases were the starting point of my musical experiments, and I believe that they also have parts in common, a consistency, with what I do now. I hope that you will enjoy listening to them, and discovering these resonances for yourselves.”
